The Secret to Wealth & Happiness

Once I heard Tony Robbins giving away his secret to becoming wealthy and happy. And the secret is: BE A TEAM PLAYER!

It caught my attention right off the bat, because I wasn’t expecting that kind of answer. Perhaps, that’s why most of us are neither rich nor fulfilled. But then it all made sense as the explanation went on. If you’re anything like me you might want to understand such philosophy. If you are, read on.

Basically our lives are made up of things, places and people. Things we use for different purposes at places we go with people. It is then fair to say that in order to be rich and happy we must work very hard on maintaining a certain level of balance among these three things over the course of our lives. Taking this basic understanding into consideration, being a team player not only starts making sense, but becomes one of those truths that makes us all think “why don’t they teach this stuff in school?” and “where was I looking at for the past 30 years that I didn’t see this coming?”

So, being a team player, eh?! What’s the first thing you do when something really amazing happen to. you? I call my wife, my parents and some close friends to share such thing with them. As Chris McCandless wrote on Into The Wild “happiness is only real when shared”. Thus, it’s fair to say that we don’t contact such special bunch of people to share the news because we want to make them jealous or to brag about our achievements. We call them because we know that such amazing news will light up their day, it will give them proof that amazing things can happen and ultimately so they can feel part of our success.

By doing so, we are heightening the good vibes in our emotional environment. When we feel elated, we consequently perform better, become better company to those who are in our vicinity and we have more energy to deal with whatever it is in front of us. If you’re still wondering what this all has to do with being a team player, I invite you to ponder what’s the meaning of team player. Well, team players work for a common goal and don’t have their own personal interests on the forefront of their actions. A team player is there to support others and appreciate the support others offer them.

To conclude, the ability to make others happy and rich is the ability to allow others to make us happy and rich. If we fail to make those around us rich and happy, they will have less overall energy to fill up the environment we’re all sharing. Therefore, it’s mutually beneficial to give all our attention, energy, money and time to those people around us get the things they want. The only catch to this situation is that on one hand, if we spend all our resources on achieving the things we want in our lives, we won’t have a whole lot of people to share the rewards with. On the other hand, if we invest all our resources in people, we won’t have much things to share with them. Moreover, part of being a team player means being grateful for the people and stuff we’ve got as well as being optimistic and enthusiastic about the things we can achieve and the people we can touch in the future. Think about it this way, if you could spend a million dollars on making 5 people’s dream come true per week, do you think there would be more or less people willing to help you acquire five million dollars per week? Regardless, this is your team.
